Any RV that has its own drivetrain and can be driven as its own vehicle is considered a motorhome. If you’re interested in learning more about motorhomes and want to make the most out of your motorhome purchase, check out this guide from the experts at Scwab’s R.V. World.

Definition

A motorhome is an RV that has its own engine/drivetrain, and is its own self-contained vehicle. Motorhomes can be divided into three classes: Class A, Class B, and Class C. Class A motorhomes are built around bus chassis. This makes them some of the biggest and most luxurious motorhomes on the market, and some of the biggest RVs in general. Class A motorhomes are a good choice for large groups, but they can be somewhat unwieldy to operate.

Class B motorhomes are built around van chassis. They are some of the smallest RVs, making them an affordable option for solo travelers or couples. Class C motorhomes are built off of truck chassis, which puts them between Class As and Class Bs in terms of size. Many Class C models have a sleeping alcove above their cabs, resembling the ones found in truck campers. Class C models can vary a lot in terms of size and features, making this a fairly broad category of motorhome.

Features

Motorhomes tend to be some of the most luxurious of all RVs, due in part to their large size. Even smaller models usually have a lot of interior space, making them a good choice for taller campers. Larger models may have their own private master bedrooms and residential style kitchen spaces. Of course, most manufacturers offer a range of floor plans, allowing you to swap out for an entertainment center or whatever else you might want. The range of available features is truly staggering.
